From the ultimate in alpine luxury, to the A-lister’s favorite beach resort or sublime wellness retreat, we share our pick of the best suites to book for an end of summer getaway.
Four Seasons Bali
Brand new for this summer, the Imperial Three-Bedroom Villa is the most coveted of beachfront sanctuaries, a fusion of sophisticated island living within the authentic Balinese village concept of Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay. Following a complete redesign and rebuild, the two-storey residence has a variety of private spaces and shared living areas, creating a relaxed residential-style ambience for families and friends travelling together.
Or if you fancy something more presidential, take your lead from the Obamas after their recent stay at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. The three-story, three-bedroom Royal Villa residence overlooks the Ayung River, forest highlands and rice terraces. There’s plenty of space, as up to nine guests can stay in the “palatial” villa, which is entered via the rooftop. Upstairs on the roof, there’s a lily pond and private meditation area. The resort is also home to the Sacred River Spa, where you can go for Balinese healing rituals, facial treatments, chakra ceremonies as well as more traditional spa programmes.
The Alpina Gstaad, Switzerland
The Alpina Gstaad’s Panorama Suite resets the bar for alpine luxury. The 400-m² duplex apartment has three bedrooms over two floors, and offers mountain views to both the north and south. (We think the best way to enjoy them is from the outdoor Jacuzzi on the terrace). The suite also has its own private chef, so you can dine in privacy, under the stars.
Ananda in the Himalayas, India
In the grounds of the Maharaja’s Palace, the Vice Regal Suite is a perfect retreat for the colonial connoisseur. It comprises of a spacious sitting and dining area and a plush bedroom featuring a period four-poster bed. The attached dressing room and bathroom are beautifully appointed with antique furniture and fittings. With its own private terrace, perfect for private yoga or meditation sessions, and roof top gazebo setting overlooking the sloping landscaped gardens and the distant Ganga Valley, staying at the Vice Regal Suite takes you back to India’s regal past.
