TRX classes are on the rise in 2017, the idea of just one piece of equipment to provide a low impact, cardio and strength session heightens the appeal for a simple workout.

Channel your inner Jane Fonda as Dance and aerobic style classes make a big resurgence, with Frame studios and Scene on Screen leading the way.

As outside workouts such as Tough Mudder become more popular than ever and outdoor gyms in local parks are on the rise, many gyms are taking their offering outside with parkour, double dutch skipping and obstacle courses.

Move over HIIT, PHIIT – (Pilates High Intensity Interval Training) is the 2017 update. PHIIT combines the toning and core strengthening workout of Pilates with the high intensity cardiovascular workout of HIIT to create a programme that gives the ultimate in overall fitness.

Zumba has been experiencing cycles of rising and falling popularity since it was created in the late 90s. With the Olympics in Brazil last year bringing Latin dance and music culture back into the forefront of people’s minds, it’s likely to experience another upswing in popularity in 2017.

Bodyweight training is one of this year’s top exercise trends and involves using your body weight as resistance – such as push-ups, squats and lunges – so very little space or equipment is needed.

Fancy Crawling like a baby and trying out animal moves. Original Strength, which practices crawling, explains on its website that “through Original Strength, you can remember and regain the strength, mobility and stability you once had as a child.” In other words, you will lay a solid foundation from which you can build a solid structure.
