Self-Realisation: connect with yourself in the mighty Himalayas

Meditation has been scientifically proven to help general wellbeing, so it is no surprise that many people are now turning to this mindful practice to become more centred and achieve inner peace.

One of the world’s leading destination spas, Ananda in the Himalayas, located in the spiritual Himalayan foothills, has introduced a new 7-night Dhyana program. This is a process of self-realisation that allows guests to gain more control over their physical and mental faculties, balancing them emotionally as well as spiritually.

The programme includes daily meditation sessions including Yoga Nidra (physic sleep), Ajapa Japa (spontaneous mantra chanting), Antar Mouna (inner silence) and Trataka (gazing on a candle flame). Each day’s guided meditation session is accompanied by a discussion and explanation of the practice and its effects. The meditation sessions are grounded in ancient Indian traditions of mental and meditative awareness and yet practical for modern living to quieten frenetic, busy minds, aid concentration and help insomnia.


In addition, there are one-on-one personalised Hatha Yoga sessions, for each guest to release physical stiffness and tensions and attain stillness, whilst Pranayama breathing techniques balances the energy and internalises the mind to assist meditative practices. Topics related to Yogic philosophy and its incorporation into daily practices are discussed with the Yoga Guru. The Dhyana program also includes Swadhaya or self-study which is a deeper reflection on each day’s experiences.

Yoga Asana

To enhance the self-realisation process, a carefully selected series of complimenting treatments are also offered. Firstly, to help therapeutic cleansing, Abhyanga, a traditional Ayurvedic synchronised full body massage is given by two therapists. To release the dormant energy in the body and balance the chakras, a Kundalini back massage provides increased energy and spiritual enlightenment. Shirodhara improves memory, normalises sleep patterns and blood pressure while Shiatsu reduces any last traces of stress in the body. The Amethyst Rejuvenation facial heals with Amethyst crystals, whilst essential oils of rose, vetiver and sandalwood hydrate, cool and balance.
